IFEPR is a research and educational foundation devoted to the long-term study of the structure, form, function, and diseases of the equine foot; an engineering marvel.
Our aim is to decrease pain, optimize use, and increase longevity in the horse through research, education, and innovation.

Published data reports an 89% incidence of abnormalities in the feet of horses.
The horse has more nerves in their foot than any other part of their body, thus the foot is the part of the horse deserving sustained research. One focus of IFEPR is in-depth research sustained over decades, using the scientific method.

Education
Foot disease accounts for 89% of equine deaths,
Using the foundation of scientific knowledge surrounding the three functions of the equine foot, important information and education is available to the equine community. Backed by IFPER’s data-driven research, our educational materials will be available to the horse owners to recognize irregularities, to the veterinarian to understand these irregularities, and to the farrier to treat these irregularities.
In early 2021, a podiatry school will be open to farriers, veterinarians, and lay horsemen.
Innovation
Through translational medicine, material design and development has benefits for the foot of both the horse and the human.
With definitive research of the cellular structures and functions of the equine foot, IFEPR translate data it into “real-world” application. We research different materials on different horse breeds, sport uses, and in different environments to determine which will decrease foot disease and death. The result is research-backed products for the equine community, and translational medical benefits to the health of the equine and human.
